Costa designed by Landor Associates in 1999. The immediate answer was to design disconnected letters and to add some unusual glyphs such as k, v or E in order to give a unique colour to the text. The idea was to create a sort of mediterranean style of typeface. Using the structure of a somewhat modernised Italian Chancery script to which only the ending serif remained. The serif being more of a flourish creating contrast and referencing the more exotic countries such as those which Costa Crociere present in their catalogs. Costa is a style without neutrality and doesn’t fit comfortably into any typeface classification – this proves to be the novelty of its design as well as guaranteeing its originality.Costa was designed to be appropriate for any use where you might desire to give an informal look in titling sizes but still need good legibility in small text sizes. In 2004, Costa was launched by Typofonderie as OpenType family, ExtraBold and Demi weights were added.

Kurkuma (Turmeric in Dutch) is a spice I use in all of my curries. And I love curry! It’s not more than fair to name a font after my favorite ingredient, so here you have it: Kurkuma. Galangal Font
Galangal, or Laos, is a root belonging to the ginger family, which is used in Indonesian cuisine. Since this font has the same design characteristics as Kurkuma, I thought naming it after a root was quite appropriate. Galangal is pretty unique, with thin and fat areas, bizarre glyphs and rough edges. Upper and lower case are fully interchangeable and the typeface comes with a full range of diacritics.

This time the font’s name is meaningless. Maduki doesn't mean ‘cool’ in Swahili, nor does it mean ‘cup cake’ in Sranantongo. It is just a nice name. Maduki is a playful font, created with one of my 2 year old son’s marker pens (the 'no stain, wash-out' variety), a couple of cups of coffee and a whole bunch of ‘speculaas’ cookies. Now you're wondering what speculaas is, right? I'll tell you later - in a couple of fonts... Anyway, there’s not much meaningful to say about Maduki font. It is nice, it is cute and it comes with alternates!

Pierre Didot, the printer, published a document with the typefaces of his brother, Firmin Didot, the typeface designer. Adrian Frutiger’s Didot is a sensitive interpretation of the French Modern Face Didot. Another model for this design is the Henriade, an historical printing of the original Didot from 1818.
