FF Spinoza Pro Font Family
11 years in the making, FF Spinoza is an elegant workhorse: crisp, sturdy, economical, and versatile. It was named after 17th century philosopher and lens-grinder Baruch Spinoza, who sought through both his professions to help people see clearly. A classic and highly readable Antiqua, it was inspired by the rigor of mid-century German text faces like Trump Mediaval and the lucidity of Janson revivals like Monotype Ehrhardt. Its x-height and aperture are generous, its proportions are compact, and its contrast is relatively low. Robust thin strokes and pronounced serifs and terminals make it suitable for setting in small sizes under challenging conditions, both in print and on the Web. Abruptly tapered junctures keep characters sharply defined and, in the heavier weights, create enlivening light traps. Substantial shoulders join branches and bowls firmly to their stems, which helps avoid the ‘picket-fence’ effect sometimes created by daintier typefaces. A comprehensive set of diacritics provides support for over 130 languages in the Pro version. Tabular figures are uniform in width across all weights to aid in the setting of columnar matter. Spinoza’s understated design makes it ideal for books and longer texts, but closer examination reveals distinctive details that suit it for advertising, branding, packaging, and other types of more highly flavored work. Its curves are subtly faceted, with extra corners and unexpectedly straight edges that add interest in display sizes and energy in text sizes. It has received Certificates of Excellence from the International Society of Typographic Designers and Communication Arts magazine.

Archer, the colorful slab serif.Sweet but not saccharine, earnest but not grave, Archer is designed to hit just the right notes of forthrightness, credibility, and charm.The Geometric is a twentieth-century riposte to the Antique. Informed by the same kind of rationalist thinking that inspired the great sans serifs of the Bauhaus, Geometrics abandon traditional forms in favor of mathematical strategies. A Geometric’s O is circular rather than elliptical, and its forms shed their residual contrast between thicks and thins. Geometrics usually apply this same rationalism to the woollier parts of the alphabet, replacing the alphabet’s beaks and tails and ball terminals with a program of matching serifs. While these faces can sometimes be bracingly modern, they’re often monotonous, and many Geometrics suffer from an astringent sting that makes them difficult to use and unwelcome to read.

Whitney Font Family

A type family originally developed for New York’s Whitney Museum, Whitney contends with two different sets of demands: those of editorial typography, and those of public signage. Typefaces for catalogs and brochures need to be narrow enough to work in crowded environments, yet energetic enough to encourage extended reading. Its compact forms and broad x-height use space efficiently, and its ample counters and open shapes make it clear under any circumstances. And Whitney’s extensive language support, covering more than 200 languages worldwide, has made it a mainstay of diversified brands that require localized typography.

Inspiration to create this font family came from my love of retro motorcycle parts, greasy American ‘dive’ bars, antique machinery & rockabilly album covers.
There are so many wonderful characteristics about typography from these ‘worlds’ that I couldn’t wait to combine some of them all into a new font that was a bit more geometric, modern and polished enough to use for branding purposes. The 'Rough" eroded versions were designed for use in more playfully gritty logos, layouts and type treatments.

Byington Font Family
Inspired by the ancient carvings chiseled into Trajan’s column in Rome, Byington pays homage to Trajan’s venerable lines but strips away the subtle nuances usually associated with the classic design. Fortified to withstand the requirements of video and other low resolution applications, Byington’s strength lies in its beefier serifs and speedier transitional curves. And what’s this? Recent excavations revealed a lowercase, ten meters below the column’s foundation. Just kidding! Byington’s lowercase is interfused with Sabon and Garamond, mirroring the pared down simplicity of the capitals.
