P22 St G Schrift Font Family $70 | 5 x TTF and OTF

P22 ST.G Shrift is a font series based on the type designs of Stefan George with an italic version designed by Colin Kahn. Stefan George (1868-1933) was a German poet who led the revolt against realism in German literature. All of his works were privately published and the typefaces that were used reflected his neo-classic and anti-industrial (progessive) aesthetics; oftentimes consisting of his own hand lettering designs. The original font was cast in 1907 by a small foundry in Germany and was used primarily for the works of George as well as other books including a monumental edition of Dante’s Divine Comedy.

The ST.G Shrift Fonts contained in this set are derived from 3 known variations of the original roman typeface, St.G., found in various books published in Berlin in the early 20th century. ST.G Shrift One contains the most idiosyncratic characters, while ST.G Shrift Two uses more familiar characters as well as a redesign of characters including the t and the k to be more in keeping with modern san-serif designs.

Spiggie is a sans-serif, whose name came to me on a Shetland beach. The beach traces a tight curve between the shoreline and the sea paralleled in the fonts controlled yet smooth character.

The design language reaches back to the art deco period and the 1920s, yet retains a distinct modern flavor.

Speyside is a round, curved and controlled sans serif with an additional set of decorated uppercase letters, initials and small caps. It’s appropriate for text, titling and display. The origin of the name is taken from a small location in Tobago. The font is inspired by the local handicraft, the batik in particular.

Each pro font style includes small caps and decorative initials as well as several OpenType features.

Pooper Black Pro is based on a brush ethic and has an extreme axis that lends a certain amount of speed to the font while the lack of connectors slows it down. The pro version expands on the original and popular Pooper Black with the addition of full Central and Eastern European character sets and plenty of alternate characters for those who have applications that support Opentype features. Almost all of the lower case characters now include an in stroke and out stroke version for greater design flexibility. A wonderful face for packaging, titling, and short bursts of text. 

P22 Platten Neu Font Family $170 | 15 x TTF and OTF

The P22 Platten font family has been revisited and expanded by designer Colin Kahn.

Platten is based on lettering found in German fountain pen practice books from the 1920s (you may have seen the similar Speedball books in the US). This round tip pen lettering is comparable to the basic forms used in grammar school teaching alphabets, but with a few original characteristics. The Italic version has even more of these unusual features.

Geometric and simple yet casual and timeless. Perfect for many uses.

Cereal is a font family designed by Carlos Fabian Camargo. Its 5 fonts work in groups or independent. All are designed for composition of words and phrases that need to communicate warm and craft climate. Due to its high imaginative content it is useful in designing book covers, cards, logos, posters, wedding invitations, stamps, etc.

Cereal Script, Caps and Shadow each containing over 700 programmed glyphs with opentype functions that inject greater spontaneity in alternate ligatures and different possibilities of letters with elongated lines that function as ascending, descending at the beginning, middle or end of words. Cereal Words has over 60 glyphs with special words for ranking and attract attention. Cereal Dingbats has over 55 drawings alluding to decorative themes.

Despeinada, which means “uncombed” in Spanish, is a loose script, perfect for when you want to convey informality. It'll look good in a long text, or when a few rough and spontaneous word are needed...

Being a packaging designer, my faces are mostly oriented toward that sector, although they won't look in any way out of place in the editorial world or in advertising, for example.

This face was generated in the University of Barcelona Master of Typography, in 2010, where I dictated the “Practicum”

Vast and untamed, the American West once stretched as free and wild as imagination itself. Still beautiful, the Wild West of long ago and the new West of today is now to be found in insigne’s new face, Plathorn.

That’s right, folks. When the West called, Jeremy Dooley reached up like Pecos Bill, grabbed it by the reins and pulled it in, then using its wide, roaming elements to design this functional font that still has an unbroken spirit burning deep inside. This down right, no-nonsense, orthodox face leaves off any of that extra fancy stuff that doesn't belong on a ride.

Plathorn comes with a family of cowhands as wide as the Rockies, bringing specifically tailored condensed and extended sub-families along with it too. By design, it’s not very obtrusive like its unorthodox reversed tension brethren. Leave those for the next font rodeo. This mount features barely a hint of a serif that hearkens back a hundred years or so to sign painters and package lettering artists of early twentieth century. They're sure to put the sharpness, gumption and grit you need into your copy.
