The objective of this project was to design a new typeface series for Grazia magazine. First published in 2010, Regal was later revamped and redesigned for commercial use, evolving into a type system with five related superfamilies. According to the brief, this typeface had to be elegant, luxurious, sexy, vibrant, reflect the female sensitivity and take into consideration a modern woman who is more proud, more connected, more spontaneous, open-minded and eager to try a whole host of new products and services. Targeting this consumption-wise and well-educated woman, required a typeface that is not strictly based on classic forms, but incorporates several distinct elements that express a modern woman’s personality and the products she consumes. In that respect, a whole series of 5 related superfamilies was designed, which not only emphasize femininity but also reflect both the romantic as well as the dynamic side of the female personality. For that matter, elegant curvy details were introduced in order to create a link to the female figure; teardrop terminals which reflect a woman’s sensitivity; pronounced quirks on upper and lower arms for her eyelashes; high-contrast, sharp corners at thinning terminals for her high heels; alternate glyphs for the woman who prefers to express her individuality -rather than slavishly follow trends- by using various accessories which can dramatically change her appearance; elegant endings and long curves to reflect her predisposition to dream; bell-shaped serifs with an inward rather than outward direction which recall streamlined seventies fashion. This series of typefaces is diverse in its construction as it consists of five related superfamilies i.e. text, display, finesse, swash and stencil. There is a variety of weights which range from regular to ultra black for each one of the five families. These families share common attributes but they differ in content according to each one’s usage. The whole superfamily type system is comprised of 47 weights with an average of 898 glyphs per weight. It supports simultaneously Latin, Cyrillic and Greek and comes with many alternate glyphs.

Acto Font Family

Acto is a type system designed as the sans serif counterpart of the previous released Acta. Both type families were designed in 2010 for the redesign of the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, but unlike some of our previous fonts (i.e., Leitura) Acto doesn't exactly match Acta in terms of structure, so they can live on their own. Acto is our first sans where the uppercase has the same height as the ascenders, so we decided to avoid common problems like the confusion between the I and the l, by drawing a curved l. We kept that spirit by removing the spurs on the b, g and q, resulting on a more warm typeface than Prelo, for instance. In the end it’s a very powerful sans family, with eleven weights with matching italics, for editorial and corporate design.

Regan Slab Font Family

A precision cut slab serif typeface. Simple curves are combined with sharp angles to provide a readable font with subtle characteristics. Regan Slab is ideally suited to wide range of applications including magazines, newspapers and handheld devices. Details include 10 weights with italics, 540 characters, 5 variations of numerals, small caps, stylistic alternatives, manually edited kerning and Opentype features.

Strange Alphabets Font

Strange Alphabets is a narrow Arts & Crafts display font inspired by late 1800’s book covers and an early 1980’s variation of the Siouxsie & the Banshees band logo. Strange Alphabets includes copious punctuation and symbols. It’s loaded with fractions, numeric ordinals and operators because everyone needs mathematics; including goths.?? In OpenType savvy applications, the first and last letter of a word will receive a small diamond ornament. If a word starts with M, the single diamond splits into three. Words starting with O will automatically use a tall O. If you’d like to force a tall O in the middle of the word, use a zero. Words that start with a double O such as Oolong, will receive a pair of tall O’s. A pair of O’s in the middle or at the end of a word will be replaced by a linked ring ligature.??If your application allows you to access OpenType stylistic alternates, you can change the A and H cross-bars into small rings and remove all the diamonds from the M. The hyphen, en dash and em dash are replaced with ring ornaments. A separate diamond ornament is included under Unicode 25C6. If you want to disable the automatic OpenType substitutions, turn off your application’s standard ligatures feature.

Winco Font Family

Winco family can be labelled a humanist sans-serif, but in spirit it is more closely related to that rather rare typeface category called ‘glyphic’ or ‘incise’. While conceiving Winco, Ramiro Espinoza studied the work of the masters of postwar book cover design: Helmut Salden, Boudewijn Ietswaart, Berthold Wolpe; among others. He also looked into German and Czech traditions of expressive printing types that had such a strong presence in the earliest decades of the 20th century. Having established a stylistic framework, Espinoza designed the typeface from scratch. This allowed him to create an original, typographically consistent and versatile family in five weights, from Light to Ultra Black. The process has resulted in a typeface that successfully combines the high legibility and seriousness of a text face with the expressiveness, dynamism and subtle irreverence of the original hand-rendered alphabets. Winco is a versatile family whose extreme weights – Light, Black and Ultra Black – make for striking headlines, while the middle weights work well in both display and text settings. Produced as CFF OpenType fonts, all weights come with small caps and multiple numeral sets, including superscript, subscript and fractions, alternate glyphs and ligatures, making Winco a typographically sophisticated family suitable for a wide range of editorial and corporate work.

Taurunum Font Family

The initial idea for this font came when a friend of mine asked me to create a logo for a sports team that he was forming. Since it was a martial arts competitive sport, bold and striking lettering was needed to reflect that. When the logo was finished, I was really pleased whith the letters so I decided to create the entire font. Taurunum is made with intention to be used for display design (logos, posters, etc.), and combining the weights should give best results.

Adagio Slab Font Family

The Adagio Family is a part of Mateusz Machalski’s, Warsaw Academy of fine arts Master Degree Diploma in multimedia studio, conducted by Professor Stanislaw Wieczorek and his brave PhD student Jakub Wroblewski. Adagio is a modern type family. It consists of 3 main varieties: sans, serif and slab. Each has its own “true italic” set. All of the styles together have over 400 characters in 9 different thicknesses. The Adagio family was created mostly for company identities. The idea was to create a wide range of different varieties that are stylistically consistent. Adagio Slab - Slab variety combines qualities of the Sans and Serif varieties. It has the same contrast as Sans. As distinct from Serif, Adagio Slab contains strong, beamy and symmetrical serifs in the form of pillows. Thanks to large X height, and highly stretched descenders, it also works correctly in longer text, while its strong detail is good for headlines.
